A little-known fact about the sculpture of the Charging Bull is that this did not start off as a City plan or even a NYSE idea. In the December of 1987, The sculptor, Arturo Di Modica, went ahead and just installed this right in the heart of New York's financial district without anybody's permission. The police then impounded it but the resulting public protest led to its reinstallation. Since then it has stood here and come to symbolize Wall Street.
